Big News and Updates

April 2024

News:

  • Summer: Summer is almost over, but it is still warm and humid. The government says that El Niño is gone, but we have a La Niña on the way which will bring lots of rain.
  • Bible Clubs:
  • The Mountain and Coastal Kids and Youth Bible Clubs: Gary and Andrés will be visiting the Mountain Bible clubs the first week of this month.
  • Summer Break: We have started giving out the school backpacks and will complete the coastal clubs by the end of the month.
  • Ministry Center News:
  • Sunday Night Services: Andrés has been doing a great job as Pastor of the Sunday night services.
  • Tuesday Community Evangelistic Outreach:
  • Our laser projector is fixed and ready for the first movie, the second week of this month.
  • Land: Please pray specifically for the Lord to open up land along the highway in Montañita which we can purchase at a reasonable price

Big News:

  • Young Mother's Project: Praise the Lord, Veronica started the first three of seven young mother's discipleship clubs the first week of April. Veronica taught great concepts from the Bible and a book called Christian Femininity.
  • Health Clinic: The health clinic started the last week of March. The clinic is open to the communities from 7:30 am to 9: 30 am every Monday. The first day, we served 18 people from the community. We are following up with 75% of them to confirm high blood pressure and or diabetes. We sent two people to the hospital. It felt so good to put on scrubs again!
  • EFL: We have set a date to start teaching EFL (English as a Foreign Language) the second week of this month. Our 4-month adult interns, Mike and Jeannie McGalliard will teach two classes, twice a week for six weeks.

Bigger News:

  • Raising up leaders from the Kid's Bible clubs: We have one of the girls that attended our San Jose Bible club for many years asked us if she could lead the Kid's Bible Club with the leader of the community. When we left the mountains, we could not find any church to take over this Bible club near Cuenca and the former leader was too tired to do it by herself, especially after taking over the Ladies Bible club. Karen graduated high school is doing a great job with Narcissa in the Kid's Bible club.
  • Are we a church? We are starting to look and act like a church. We understand that the people are the church, but our little church plant is looking more like a real church.
  • We held our first Easter Sunrise service on the beach with 45 people and many Ecuadorian tourists listening in.
  • Gary and Andrés preached their first Wake and Funeral service for one of the families who attend our Sunday night Bible study. We also provided food for the family for both days.

Special Prayer Request:

  • Pray for us to find private property to purchase and build a building larger than our leased building.
  • Pray for God to soften the hearts of the Montañita people to receive His Gospel.
  • Pray for the national house church leaders who continue the mountain Bible clubs.
  • Financial Support: Please pray that Christ will continue to provide for the ministry's financial needs for the mountains and the Coast.
