About Us: What is Pate Ministries?

Who we are, where we come from, and where we're headed as a ministry

Our Mission

Ecuador is a country of 13 million, 98% of the people are Catholic and in the indigenous population, Catholicism is mixed with animism. This is a country where most of the children and adults have religion, but do not understand what it is to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. Our desire is to reach and teach the children and their families about Christ so that they will accept Him as Savior, grow in Him and lead their own people to Christ. We believe the children are the future leaders of this beautiful country.

Our Vision

2 Corinthians 4:5 “For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.” We want to raise-up, train, equip and support the nationals in reaching their people for Jesus.

We believe that we cannot reach the Ecuadorian people for Jesus like their own people can. We have identified many needs, but the one’s that God has shown us that need attention immediately are as follows: neighborhood after school bible clubs in order to teach the children about Christ, monthly community projects in areas where there is no Gospel work in order to share the Gospel and encourage the local house church pastor and create curriculum and a training program to teach and train local christian leaders how to start kids bible clubs in areas in which we cannot go weekly.

We started doing short-term missions in 1989 and have been on the field as full-time Missionaries since 2012. I am not a pastor nor are we Seminary trained, but God has given us other tools and skills to spread the gospel and show love of Christ through children’s programs, teaching ESL (English as a second language), bible clubs and hosting community programs such as showing Gospel movies in Spanish, holding medical clinics and providing preventative health care teaching in local communities and many other programs.

Our vision is simply to obey God by sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and making disciples.

What do we do?

We share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with bible clubs in rural villages where there is little or no Gospel presence. We currently minister to 1,000 - 1,300 kids and adults a month with nine (9) weekly or monthly kids bible clubs, one (1) youth and one (1) ladies bible club in eleven (11) rural communities outside of Cuenca and up to two (2) hours drive each way.

Our bible clubs are more of a weekly discipleship program. In our bible clubs we gather the kids (and adults) together, spend time with them by playing games with them, have prayer time, verse memorization, music time, then we share the Gospel though bible stories, dramas, skits and puppets, etc., then we have question time (to make sure the kids understood the stories) and snack time. Two-thirds (2/3) of our children will memorize a bible verse each week. No matter how much we sing, play or feed the kids, nothing is more important than planting the Word of Christ in these kids!

We also show the Love of Christ in a tangible way as the Lord leads us by doing several humanitarian projects each year. We give out backpacks filled with school supplies and a complete Spanish Bible, we give out rain boots and rain ponchos to protect the children during rainy season since the children walk over an hour or more each way to our bible clubs and we also give out winter beanie hats, scarves and gloves to help protect the children as they walk to bible club in the winter. We have done many other projects to include construction, clothes and food distribution.

Where are we headed?

We want to be obedient to the Lord’s leading. In 5 years, I see us still ministering in Ecuador as we have no intentions on moving back to the United States until God says we are finished or are buried. I cannot predict the future as God knows His plans for us, however, we envision having a training program with our own created curriculum to teach leaders on how to start kids bible clubs, have a center to train adults in children’s ministry and teaching life skills, such as cooking, sewing, cosmetology, jewelry making, manicures, motorcycle repair, finances, budgeting, etc. in areas where there are single mothers and prostitution is a way of providing for their family and also for the teens in our remote villages to help provide income in their own villages.

We understand we are nothing and that we MUST walk with Christ every day; this is not our work, but HIS. We pray everyday that God will use us, open doors, lead us, guide us and direct us. We also pray that we won’t get in His way as He is the potter and we are the clay. We are just simple country folk from a little town called Callahan and I am a common sense kind of guy following in the calling of God.
